Joyce is a wonderful tutor! She is very knowledgeable and has helped improve my sons grades in both Algebra and Geometry for the past 2 years. Joyce is very patient with him and works at his pace. I always struggled with math since I was in high school. I decided to go back to school after ten years of being away from it. I wanted to find someone that wasn’t only knowledgeable, but patient. Joyce knew exactly what I needed and at pace in which I could retain and understand the materials clearly. When I struggled, Joyce broke down and revised material in different ways so I could understand multiple ways of solving the same questions. Joyce was a teacher for many years and has a thorough understanding of NYS curriculum. I had to take remedial math starting from the basics for two semesters. I received a B+ thanks to Joyce. She was there by my side every step of the way. I then moved on to college algebra which I started in spring 2020. I realized this math only gets more complicated.Joyce reassured me of my capability. That really helped me feel confident. I learned how to approach these math questions. Covid-19 pandemic hit which redirected my class to online. Joyce was able to continue my tutoring sessions. She helped me finish the semester strong. I ended up receiving another B+ in college algebra. I was happy and content with my grade especially knowing where I was coming from with math. I am thankful for Joyce’s amazing approach to teaching. My journey is a living testimonial that if you struggle with math, Joyce will probably find a way to get you through it.

Joyce was wonderful with our two children, ages 10 (4th grade) and 11 (5th grade)! She was on time, prepared in advance for lessons by reaching out to find out what the kids were working on each week, and transitioned seamlessly from in-person to virtual sessions during the pandemic. Joyce was always available, enthusiastic, and really helped our children improve their math skills and, perhaps more importantly, their math confidence.

This was my first year utilizing a tutor for my schoolwork, and I couldn’t be happier that Joyce was the one to help me. I was a sophomore in an Honors Algebra 2 class, but was not confident with the material at all and often came home from school feeling like I retained nothing from class that day. Joyce and I started working with each other in November, and in these past 8 months, the differences between my previous years of math and now are drastic. We met once a week for about an hour and a half, and I believe that it is due to the comfortable environment Joyce provided as well as her teaching method that my grades and attitude towards math improved. Translating what I learned in school to my work that was due at the end of the week was always very difficult for me, so Joyce’s ability to re-teach me and provide me with extra practice to refresh my memory is something that I am very grateful for. Her style of teaching is very personal and in-depth, including many different outside references and examples that made me feel like I could even teach someone what I learned from her. After my time with Joyce, I was able to go into class and confidently take tests and assessments knowing that I understood what I was looking at. I would absolutely recommend Joyce as a tutor, especially to anyone like me who likes a comfortable, no-judgment environment to better understand all aspects of math. Joyce is warm, methodical and calming. My daughter understands most of the concepts but she panics on the tests, her mind swirling with "what ifs." I hired Joyce for helping my daughter with Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. Meeting with Joyce helps her to practice the most tricky problems and provides much-needed affirmation that she's on the right track. Joyce has many tips to make things easier to understand. She reviews the topics before each session to ensure efficient use of time, and she prepares extra problems for the more difficult concepts. She welcomes feedback. I hired Joyce to be my son’s Geometry tutor starting in February. Before Joyce, my son was struggling to learn the lessons and wasn’t able to take good notes. He couldn’t keep up with his teacher, who only gave my son videos to watch and a note-taking packet. The teacher provided no instruction and expected my son to learn the geometry from videos. This wasn’t conducive to how my son learns math. After working with Joyce once a week, for an hour and a half each session, my son consistently earned A’s for all his homework assignments and weekly quizzes. His year-end average was a 90 and I am so thankful for finding Joyce to be his teacher. She used my son’s notes to frame each tutoring session. She gave him excellent notes, strategies to learn the vocabulary, and most importantly, taught him the math objectives that his teacher failed to do. My son loved her explanations and she made the math understandable for him. I am so grateful for finding Joyce this school year, and I look forward to using her for my son’s studies in algebra 2 next year. I highly recommend her tutoring services.

Joyce tutored me for the first semester of my senior year in pre-calculus. I had just moved to the US, and I was used to smaller classes and more 1 on 1 learning. I wasn’t able to get that in a class of 40 students, so I reached out for private tutoring. I have dyscalculia and math anxiety, and Joyce did a great job of catering to my needs and checking in with me, which made me feel more secure and confident. She would also remind me that I was smart, and she kept instilling confidence into our tutoring sessions. She went over concepts multiple times. When she felt like I didn’t get it, she never got frustrated with me, which made me feel comfortable asking questions. I have tried so many different tutors in my life, and no other tutor was ever the right fit for me. I had never gotten a grade higher than a C in my high school math life, but with Joyce, I was excelling in math. My grade went up from an F to an A- in a matter of weeks. My favorite thing about her class was that I was able to record classes and rewatch them on my own time in the event I needed to reinforce my knowledge for anything I felt anxious about. I would best describe Joyce as genuine, patient and passionate. It was clear that Joyce wasn’t just teaching to get a quick paycheck; She actually wanted to see me do well. I would text her day and night sometimes, when I was feeling anxious about a test or frustrated, and she never pushed me away or closed the door on my emotional needs. She was always there to help! She was more than a tutor to me; she was a friend. I enjoyed math when we were learning together and for the first time, I felt as though I was capable of success with it. Joyce has been a pleasure to work with and a wonderful support to my son J. She has been tutoring him for the past two years (in Algebra 2/Trig Honors and Pre-Calculus Honors), for an hour a week via zoom. While a solid student overall, J finds math a bit more challenging and needs to bounce questions off someone on a one-to-one basis. Finding limited support from his teachers at school for these types of questions, we found Joyce who patiently reviews each area with him whenever he needs a little extra help or has questions. She has helped his overall math skills, but more importantly, she has built his confidence in himself and his ability to tackle these more difficult levels of math. J was resistant at first to the idea of a tutor (insisting that he didn't need help), but within two sessions with Joyce, he came to me to thank me for setting up the tutoring and eagerly asked for extra sessions with Joyce ahead of midterms and finals. J has a very busy schedule between school, extracurriculars, and a job, and Joyce has been very flexible with us when we have needed to change our appointment times. We try to keep to the same time/day each week, but if we know a busy week is coming up and we reach out to her in advance, she has always been willing to move him around to a different slot if available. We would highly recommend Joyce to others as a math tutor.

We are so grateful for having found Joyce as our daughter's Math tutor this past year. Our daughter was on an advanced path in Math in middle school (two years ahead) , and did very well in Algebra 1, but when it came time to take Geometry, she was struggling a bit, which is when we decided to find a tutor. After trying several different people and centers, we finally found Joyce! From the very first session, our daughter mentioned how patient Joyce was and how she explained the concepts so well and clearly. Our daughter was losing her self confidence in Math, but only after a couple of sessions with Joyce, she was feeling more capable and sure of herself. It became very clear to us that having a teacher that can articulate difficult concepts clearly and patiently is the key to student success. Joyce even taught my daughter some tricks to compute difficult problems that my daughter shared with her whole class and that the teacher continued to use throughout the year. In a short while, we saw an improvement in our daughter's grades, but most importantly was the increased sense of confidence that was developed through Joyce's constant encouragement. We will no doubt be using Joyce in the next several years as my daughter enters highschool and would strongly recommend her to any family who is looking for a patient, supportive and excellent teacher who knows her material so well.

We highly recommend Joyce as a tutor. She worked with our daughter when she was in 8th grade for Algebra and in 9th grade for Geometry. We definitely saw improvement in our daughter’s grades; for Geometry our daughter ended the year with an A average for the four quarters. For Algebra our daughter achieved mastery level on the Regents exam. Joyce was always kind and respectful in her interactions with our daughter and is direct and clear in her instruction. Further, it mattered to Joyce that our daughter comprehended the material; she would go over the allotted time to ensure that our daughter fully understood everything. Further we appreciate Joyce’s flexibility: tutoring sessions were remote on Zoom and if we had a conflict Joyce was prompt about getting back to us and finding another slot so our daughter wouldn’t miss a week of tutoring. This is an ideal situation for a busy teenager! Again, highly recommend!
